Yes, I know you are all going to say white but not all white is white is it?
My dilemma . . . I've made a good start on my HAED 'A Real Snow Job' and now want to start adding the snow bits ~ there's an awful lot of them, believe me, 10 skeins worth! The threads came in the post last week and when I opened them, my immediate thought was ugh that's cream, not white, I double-checked the thread number and nope, they're correct ~ cream snow!
Jane Wooster Scott is the artist of this work of art . . .
and amongst her many glorious paintings she did several with snow. When I checked the thread colours used on her other designs HAED have produced they are all done using B5200 so now in doubt and not wanting dirty snow I contacted HAED, had a very confusing response with a promise of a further email last Friday afternoon and guess what ~ no reply, not too impressed and feel a bit let down!
So blogging friends ~ what colour is snow?
B5200 ~ bright white . . . Blanc ~ white . . . 3865 Winter White (this is the one listed to use)
I know many of you stitch lovely winter scenes and snowmen so wondered if you could give some suggestions or links to the ones you have stitched and feel they truly represent snow. I just feel the snow looks so lovely and bright in the original artwork that to get the colour wrong will be a BIG mistake and OMG! the thought of unpicking white confetti stitches on 25 count 1over1 ~ my sanity could be in question!
Hope you are all having a lovely Easter and the bunny brought you lots of edible goodies
Thanks for stopping by
HAPPY STITCHING

I had a lovely Easter, thank you.
I would definitely go with B5200. That's color of our snow here! ;)
I always use B5200 for snow, no matter what is called for on a chart. I like my snow to be white! Good luck. It's a beautiful design.
I'm not going to be much help because I've used them all and 712. Sometimes B5200 seems almost too stark of a white - maybe lie the skeins beside the already stitched part of the scene and see which blends best. Good luck with it!
I always use B5200 for my snow whatever the chart says. I don't like dirty snow either.
Yup b5200 is very nice for snow :)
I've always used B5200 because I like the coverage of it. I don't like dirty snow either.
hmmmmm you certainly have a wee dilemma there ... the best advice I can give is do a floss toss against the fabbie and near the colours it is supposed to be .... looking at the picture there seems to me to be two lots of white in there ???
may be use two different shades to give a bit of definition ?? love mouse xxxx
i love b5200... I choose that one!!
Good luck..
I love 3865 for snow as it has a little more lift to it, if that makes sense. Also my pet peeve stitching colour is white, so a deviation suits me fine!! :) The design is beautiful, can;t wait to see your stitching!!! :)
I usually use 'blanc' but if stitching over a dense already stitched background, I would lay the skeins on top and decide which colour best suits the colours used in the stitching already.
Good luck - beautiful design.

(ps - sometimes I'll put some kreinik blending filament through with the white also for a touch of sparkle, but that completely depends on the 'theme' of the piece, if you know what I mean!)
Jane hope you have solved the dilema as I am afraid I am going to sit on the fence as really its your preference, I do like the brilliant white but also 3865 so here Iam sitting on the fence!!!lol
What a dilemma! I think white is one of the hardest colors to get right (well, that and yellow....) but it looks to me like there is a lot of shading and some light greys along with the white so I think, if it were me, I'd use the brightest white (B5200) for those areas and I think you'll get the effect you're looking for. Good luck! Wish I could come help!
Lovely design
B5200 is the one I use when I want a really white white :)
I can see your dilemma here. I usually trust Michele's instincts on these although I did have to email her some time ago and eventually just went with the colour as charted. Did you hear back from her? It's very unusual for her not to get back people. I've used a few different whites for stitching snow on other designs in including 3865 but I think you need to go with whatever you feel more happy with.
Wow lots of White lol.x
